Africa in Romania

Hi everyone! I am a Cameroonian student who is studying in Romania, and I can tell you that my experience since arriving here hasn't always been the most pleasant. For example, as soon as I stepped off the plane, there was already a police officer waiting for me, having been warned that there was an African on the plane. The officer took me to the police station where I was interrogated and searched for an hour. That was a truly traumatic experience for me and for lots of my African friends.

Another thing that continues to hurt me is some Romanian people's attitude towards us. They are still shocked to see someone who has a different colour skin to themselves. One person went as far as to spit on me, whilst I was stood waiting for the bus, and another person threw rubbish at me. You imagine my pain when this sort of thing happens. But hey, thank God, there are people who, unlike their compatriots, are more than happy to meet us and even boast to us by taking photos.

Another positive about Romania is its education system. The government and teachers really give it their all to enable each student to succeed in their studies with great knowledge in their field of study. Also the cost of living here is truly very cheap, so that everyone can eat something during the day. Finally, I can say that safety in the streets is a real bonus.
