Spoons: the key to every British student's heart
Whether you’re celebrating exam success or crying over a bad breakup, if you’re a student in Britain looking for a bit to eat, J. D. Wetherspoon (or Spoons, as it’s commonly nicknamed) will, most likely, be your wining and dining spot of choice. 'Why?' those unfamiliar with the place may ask. 'What's so great about it?' Well, folks, read on and you'll find out!
It’s cheap
One of the most appealing aspects of Spoons is the low cost of most meals and drinks. Burger, chips, and an alcoholic drink for £6.25? Yes please! You won’t find deals that good in many other British chain restaurants.
Service is quick
No more waiting around: if you order food at Spoons, it will usually arrive within ten minutes! As for drinks, they’ll be mixed right in front of you when you order them at the bar.
Too lazy to move from your table? Spoons now has an app through which you can order refreshments. Just provide your table number, and your food will be in front of you before you know it!
The food is good
Suspicious about the cheapness and quick preparation of your meal? Worry not: all the food I’ve tried at Spoons has been top quality and delicious! Their new halloumi fries are particularly moreish, especially topped with their tangy sweet chilli sauce.
It’s got a lively atmosphere
Need somewhere to pre-drink before you hit the club? It’s got to be Spoons! Not only do they have an extensive and affordable drinks menu – I’d recommend their Pornstar Martini pitchers! – but also, many branches have dance floors, where you can perfect your moves before the real thing. In general, this venue has a very student-friendly atmosphere, and no matter what day of the week it is, you'll find that everyone inside is buzzing with energy.
It’s convenient
There are over nine hundred J. D. Wetherspoon pubs across the UK, many of which are in the centre of town, near all the city’s popular clubs. Because of this, it will quickly become your go-to option for any special meals or nights out.
It’s familiar
If you’re a British student, you’ll likely have spent many an evening at Spoons, and will know their classic blue and white plate pattern like the back of your hand. It’s just the easiest option: whether you’re on top of the world, or going through a bit of a rough patch, if you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy drinks or a meal, it’s got to be Spoons.
