Outdoor Cooking Methods
There are many different ways to cook outside. Some are very well known, others rather less so. During our trip with the Norwegian class, we learned more about outdoor cooking methods. Below they are described.
Regular campfire
Source
A method familiar with most people. There are many different ways to build a campfire, all of which depend on the different variables like the types of wood you have collected, the humidity of the wood, wind, etc. One method requires you to put all the wood in the same direction on top of each other. The other method is one layer the one way, and the next layer the other way.
You can cook on a campfire by for example putting some dough or a sausage on a stick and hold it over the fire. Another way to cook on campfire is by putting a pot on it and for example cook water for tea or coffee, also pasta and rice in it. You can of course also toast marshmallows on the fire!
Stone Oven
Another way to cook outdoors is by building an oven. The oven shown in the pictures is made with limestone found near the river. You need to build a small campfire on the ground, and then build the oven around it. But be careful, there is a possibility that the stone may break due to the heat of the oven! We have made pizzas in those outdoor ovens, not really nature based, but still a lot of fun!

Campfire in the ground?!
The last method is to dig a hole in the ground and fill it up with stones, then on top of the stones you make a campfire. You need to keep this campfire going for a few hours to properly heat up the stones. When the stones are hot enough, the fire and embers can be taken out.

Then you can cook meat and/or vegetables on the stones. We have made lamb. We smeared the lamb in with some spices and wrapped it in silver foil. Then we put it on the stones and covered it with moss.

Then the meat needs to sit for a few hours to properly cook it. A great, if time-consuming, way to cook meat.
