Me, Myself, and I
¡Hola and a sunny welcome to Duy'N'España!
I am DUYEN and will keep you posted about my life in Spain ;)
Before I tell you who I am, what I do, and why I started Duy'N'España, I try to explain the right pronunciation of my name to you because it’s a typical Vietnamese name and confuses every new person I meet.
Lesson 1: Move your head from the left to the right and imitate a high-speed car by saying 'Zoooooooen'. And? Easy, right? You might wonder why I gave you that example. Well, that was just for fun and a good reminder ;) Actually, my name is written like ‘Duyen’ but pronounced as one syllable 'Zuyen' because the Vietnamese alphabet has two different D's, the one that sounds like Z and the other one like D.
Now that you are a professional in pronouncing my name, let’s continue. I was born in Germany and grew up in a huge Vietnamese family. In 2009 right after high school I took the next flight to my first big adventure realizing my dream of Work&Travel in Australia. Since then I’ve been traveling a lot.
All the new impressions led me to Groningen, a beautiful city with a lot of students and more bicycles than residents located in the North of the Netherlands. There I’ve been studying International Business and Management for two years. Fortunately, the study program includes one year to learn more about different cultures. My first semester will be in Madrid, Spain.
Regarding my Spanish, I have been preparing myself for two years. What happened so far? I went to Spanish classes, created a Spanish commercial about nail polish for men (Yes, for men :D ), gave a sales presentation about air guitars in Spanish, watched all ‘How I Met Your Mother’ episodes with Spanish subtitle, listened to a various range of Spanish songs, I sang and played these on guitar, and last but not least I’ve been dancing salsa, which is not typical for Spain but you can find some salsa clubs in Madrid.
With Duy'N'España I want to give some information about my experiences in Spain, and provide some survival tips.
I hope you’ll like it. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to contact me any time. ;) I would love to receive your feedback.
