An Australian Guy Sat Next to Me on the Plane, and..
I started University in Denmark, my first few weeks were great but the thirtieth of September I flew back to Milan because my American family was going to be in Italy and I had the chance to spend three days with me. I rush to finish my project, I pack lightly for the long weekend and then the next morning I board the plane.
I arrive home, I had a great time with my American family, it was the first time seeing them after the exchange so it felt good and weird to see them in my home country. Anyho time flew (as always when I have fun) and I had to go back to Denmark, and they had to go back to Colorado.
This time I was lucky. My row was the sixth on the plane and I was randomly placed by Ryanair next tp the window. I did not have a checked bag so it meant that as soon as I left the aircraft and left the airport right away.
(The view during take-off from Bergamo Orio Al Serio. )
I will rewind a little bit to the departure. I sit down and this tall blond guy sits next to me. He had a skateboard but I thought he was Danish, he looked like a Dane. "Hey, what kind of phone do you have? " he asks me. *That's a strange question to ask. I mean, why does he care? * "I have a Samsung" I fire back. "Oh nice, well.. " and then he simply starts talking. It was just a stupid question to break the ice, I suppose.
He starts telling me about his life and his adventures. At the time he was twenty, so I assume he is just one year older than me, or two at the most. He is Australian and he left Australia when he was eighteen. Without a plan, he arrived in the Netherlands and luckily found a hostel where he could sleep but also work. So he stayed in Amsterdam for a few months. He told me he was happy, he likes graphic design but he told me no one took the arts seriously back in Australia, and he also lost his dad. The only one who could hold him back was his mom but instead, she let him go.
For the summer he decided not to stay in the Netherlands, a friend of his told him to join her and go to Spain, where they would camp around and sleep on the beach. He did, and he also met people on the way who helped him and his friend get from place to place. They even arrived in Portugal and told me about the best sleep night he had. He was at the beach and was facing the stars, according to him the best night-sky.
Once his trip in Spain was over, he was "now" going to Denmark because his sister lives there and he decided to go and see her. He just decided to make traveling his lifestyle. It was amazing to finally speak to someone while flying. Usually, my neighbors are not willing to speak, are people with whom I may have little in common or are simply annoying and taking your space too (their arm on what is supposed to be your armrest, their knee against yours etc).
He was an interesting person but he also lost his phone in Spain, with pictures and itineraries, which is sad. He told me he did not have a permanent number yet so I gave him mine and he told me I could contact him if I ever went to Amsterdam... but the thing is, he has my number and I do not have anything of his, I do not even remember his name, lmao. Well if you will ever read this text I hope you are having a good life of travels and unique experiences.
