Fallas are well known in all the world as one of the biggest parties in Spain (or maybe is the Spain's biggest urban festival) held between the 15th and the 19th of March. They are unique to Valencia, Spain`s third largest city.

Many people have the opinion that Fallas are just an excuse for Valencians to do all the things we love best for a few (mad) days, but fallas are more than this, its not only noise, fire and flash; historical costumes and traditions are behind every action -like the "offering of flowers to Our lady of the Forsaken", or March the 17 and 18-.

Sooo... would you like to know them a little bit more?

(if you are in Valencia) What can we do?

Cheking the "Fallas Schedule" we can see the activities for today (you can also download the iphone application on itunes: "Las fallas de Valencia", to look what is happening and getting advice about things to do):

-At 2pm Mascletà in the City Hall Square! (on successive middays until March the 19).

- At 12pm Fireworks in the Alameda Promenade (Paseo de la Alameda).

As you can see you have a lot of time from one activity to the other so I will give you some ideas to make the most of your time here:

After the Mascletà (I can hear it from my home now...) the best is to find a place for lunch. Probably the center is a bit crowded-expensive (more now in Fallas) so an idea is to buy something to eat (you will find lot of bars or places where you can buy food to go; McDonalds, Pans, Lemon Grass...even in super Markets like Mercadona you'll find it easy to eat for less) on the street/park and going to the Old riverbed of the Turia to enjoy this fantastic sun lied down on the grass.

After a typical spanish "siesta" you can start your real Fallas Tour.

Walk about the streets and find the best ones (if not, you can ask here). Don't forget to visit Cuba-Literato AzorínConvento Jerusalen-Matemático MarzalAlmirante Cadarso, Falla del Ayuntamiento, Na Jordana, El Pilar (look for them on the map http://www.vivirvalencia.com/fallas-valencia/mapa-fallas).

And... when you start getting tired and hungry, make a stop near the Cathedral, inSanta Catalina, to have a well know Valencian "snack" the "Chocolate con churros o buñuelos" (http://www.horchateriasantacatalina.com/ubicacion.htm). The best after this is going near the "Lonja" and the central Market sq., (and walk around all The Carmen District) where you can usually find a lot of party and people dancing and singing on the street.

You can end the evening goint to Ruzafa District to see all the lights and enjoy the atmosphere before dinner.

tomorrow more! I hope you all make the most of the day!!
