Telephone companies and bargaining in Morocco

One of the things we are most worried about since smartphones appeared in our lives is to find a WiFi network wherever we are. Even if we are in the Pole North, because we need to be connected with the world.

The majority of us need the Internet almost the 24 hours of the day because we feel the urge to share everything we're doing through our social media networks, otherwise it feels as if we haven't been on a proper trip.

When it's not an Instagram picture, then it's a tweet informing about the summer heat wave or even a Facebook status telling people exactly where we are, and who knows what else.

If you're one of those then you'll be lucky if you travel to Morocco. Thanks to technology developments, now Internet is available (7 years before there wasn't any), and the price for the foreigners is quite cheap.

Now the question is ¿WiFi or mobile data?

Unfortunately, for those who love to save money as much as possible and try to make the most of free stuff, in Morocco there aren't many places where you can find free WiFi.

First of all, a few year ago it was almost impossible to find a place with proper Internet and telephone companies didn't offer telephone lines with 3G internet, therefore WiFi didn't exist.

If people wanted to use Internet, they had to go to one Cybercafé so they would be able to connect to an Internet line during half an hour, an hour or the amount of time they needed (usually it was to use Facebook, since in Morocco they are addicted to this social network).

These Cybercafés are quite popular throughout Morocco and you will be able to find them in many places.

Well the truth is, I must say they "were" popular, because ever since 3G Internet and WiFi became accessible, you will not find a single PC in Cybercafés.

On the other hand, they keep being popular despite Internet being available on mobile devices. This year they introduced some TV screens and consoles, like play-station, xbox and wii with quite popular video games, so that people can come here to play instead of buying a console.

So after all, Cybercafés tend to be packed with kids, especially in the afternoons, who fight between themselves to play Fifa or Resident Evil for half an hour.
