My number 1 place: East Side Gallery

What I learned living in Berlin is that this is a city that continuosly changes, so I hope that my tips will still be valid after 3 years!

I used to live in F'hain (Friedrichshain), east-side, and my number 1 place was absolutely the East Side Gallery.

The Gallery is what is left of the Beriner wall, a piece long 1300 meters between Ostbahnhof and the Oberbaumbruecke.

In 1990, artists from all over the world came to create the biggest open-air artwork in the world, and it's for free!

I know this might seem to be a touristic place, and indeed it is, but there's also a "berliner way" to live it.

Even though every tourist go there, most of the people do not stop behind the wall, where you can find a lovely small park in front of the Spree.

Especially when summer comes, Germans love to go around and drink beers while walking, and it is not surprising to find them there.

What really scares me about this place is that they've cut part of the wall (local administration said it will be replaced) to build luxurious flats (many Berliners opposed to the project), and I am afraid that this will not only affect the appereance of the area, but especially its spirit.

As I said, I lived very close to the Gallery, so this was a cute, restoring garden for me, and I am very curious to see if the urban plan had consequences on it.

By the way, I truly recommend you to go, and take your beer with you!!
