3 Unusual Bookshops
If you are an avid reader and wish to buy something new to read while living in Lisbon, and if you would like to read in your own language, then I have three book stores for you here, with enough diversity to fulfill your needs.
Kingpin Books
If you are a comic book fan then head out to the biggest comic book store in Portugal: Kingpin Books. Here you can find Naruto and One Punch Man animes, Funko Pop action figures, famous movie and character wallpapers and pictures, and many new releases from the comic book world. Located in Almirante de Reis, it sometimes has autograph sessions with comic book authors, and is planning to start offering writing and drawing workshops. The store has a very clean architecure, with a fancy and attractive decoration, with lots of famous characters spread across its walls.
Location: Av. Alm. Reis 82-A, 1150-021 Lisboa
Livraria Bertrand
Livraria Bertrand is the oldest book shop in the world still functioning. Open since 1732, Chiado's Bertrand was recognized to have this record in 2011 by the Guiness World Records. To walk through its seven rooms is to walk through a part of history and Portuguese literature. Check out the picture the old picture of the book store compared to the present day store. Here you can find all genres possible, and lots of books and magazines in english are available! It also has a coffee bar where you can sit outside and enjoy a bit of sun while reading your book!
Location: R. Garrett 73, 1200-309 Lisboa
Livraria Sá da Costa
Livraria Sá da Costa is a different book store. Although not as clean and tidy as Bertrand and Kingpin Books, here you can find more attraction in its old and used books, but with lots of history and rarity. Books and pieces of art here are even auctioned sometimes, due to their rarity. Here you can find an incredible amount of books, with lots of diversity. National Geographic magazines are also available in English. If you are not a native English speaker and would like to acquire a book in your language, then it is highly probable you will find some here. There are lots of French books available, and one employee told me that they had books for every language. Ninety nine percent of books and magazines are second handed so you will get good prices for them. You can also sell your books here! The book store is also located in Chiado, right in front of Livraria Bertrand.
Location: R. Garrett 100, 1200-273 Lisboa
