Food collection across borders!
It has been a really pleasant surprise for me to find out that also here in Spain the last weekend of November is devoted to a really important initiative in favour of those who are in real need.
As I was heading for the supermarket for a quick Saturday morning shopping, indeed, I was approached by some people offering me a small plastic bag and a kind smile. Though their uniform were of a different colour from the Italian ones, I had no difficulties in recognizing the volunteers who lend an helping hand to inform people about the national food collection campaign and encourage them to play their part.
Having played for so many years the role of the volunteer in the campaign, I was glad to accept the bag, quite surprised to know that the initiative is taking place both in Italy and Spain on the same day. Therefore, as this year it is not possible for me to contribute as a volunteer, I have been happy to do it as a customer.
Back home, I curiously searched the Internet to know more about it, and I found out that the campaign has recently started in Great Britain as well. For those who are not familiar with this initiative, we shall say that it is a collection of common items of food, organized by trustful charity organizations who cooperate with various supermarkets.
Let us join this worthy campaign, be it called "Colletta Alimentare", "Neighbourhood Food Collection" or "Banco de Alimentos". Not only we will do our fair share in favour of needy people, but our own day will be brightened and cheered up.
