What is it like to live in Bilbao? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

i would really recommend it. The city is pretty amazing but the sorroundings are totally awsome. We have many beautiful places with amazing views where you can go with friends or just to chill out.

There are many architectural places and as our history has more than 200 years, our culture has so many things to tell you about.

If you would like to go sightseeing, houses that we call "Baserriak" are quite pretty. Those are where our predecessors lived.

What is the student lifestyle like in Bilbao?

So cool. You have many things to do at the weekends (Cinemas, theatre, Sports, Clubbing, dancing... ) and during the week there are places where many students go such as "Coffe break" where people go to talk after going to class.

You dont have to have so much money because it's not an expensive city and maybe you can find a temporary job if you need to.

How much does it cost to live in Bilbao?

It does not cost too much. there are expensive places but also cheap ones and nearly all the cultural things are free, so you can visit Bilbao for less than 50 euros.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Bilbao? Is there any advice you can give?

Its not. If you want to come to Bilbao and be in a very good accommodation such as luxury hotels, we have 3 or 4 and they are in the center of the city. If you want something cheaper, we have a hotel called "Hostel" that it is 16 euros per night, more or less.

Then if you want to rent an apartment there are information desks on each university that can help you because a lot of students want to share or have their own apartments, and they are quite cheap.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

We live for food here. We love cooking and we have 'meals' called "Pintxos". They are small pieces of food such as a slice of bread with salmon, things called "rabas" or "chopitos" etc. We eat them having a beer or a cola or something to drink.

Then if you came here i would tell you to try the "Bacalo al pi-pil" or "Chipirones" or those kind of typical dishes from here. They are absolutely AWESOME. You might end up with 3 more kilos but its okay.

What places would you recommend visiting in Bilbao?

  • Guggenheim Museum
  • San Mames
  • Zubizuri
  • Gaztelugatze
  • Lekeitio or Mundaka or Bermeo
  • Beaches(Las Arenas, Puerto Deportivo)
  • Much more (search in Internet)

Is it good to eat out in Bilbao? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Of course it is. You have Mcdonalds and Burger and those but there are others such as "Tagliatela" or "Eneperi" or "El simon" where you can eat awesome and cheap food with beautiful views.

Is the nightlife good in Bilbao? Where is good to go?

If you are young (17-20) you can go to "Barakaldo" where you have a disco called 'Anaconda' and near it you have many many other pubs that open until 4:00 am.

If you still being young (18-25) you have so many discos: Mao mao beach, Sonora, Fever, Moon, Back stage... with all kind of music.

And if you are also between 18-25 but you like heavy metal and that kind of music, you can go to "Iturri" where all the pubs and people there like that kind of stuff.

If you are not that young (30-... ) you can go onto pubs and bars in Bilbao.

What advice would you give future students heading to Bilbao?

Not to be stressed or something like that because life here is quite good you have plenty of things to do and to know about. People are so kind so if you cant find something they will help you as far as they can.
