What is it like to live in Berlin? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I can only recommend living in Berlin. It's a super vibrant and lively city and there's always something interesting going on.

What is the student lifestyle like in Berlin?

It depends. Some of us are super layed back and relaxed and others are very stressed and work two jobs to pay their bills. Berlin is a very diverse city and so are the students that live there.

How much does it cost to live in Berlin?

I'm lucky with my apartment but rooms / studio apartments in the popular areas like Neukölln, Kreuzberg or Friedrichshain can easily cost 600€ / month. Also note that security deposit in Germany is usually 3 months rent.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Berlin? Is there any advice you can give?

It's super difficult! Take anyting you can get in the beginning and then maybe look for alternatives. Even if you can't find anything in your desired neighbourhood, public transport is very good and reliable.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

You can find any kind of food, from super good steaks to nice vegan food. A classic is the Kebab, which was actually invented in Berlin but is considered a turkish snack. Make sure to also try the Currywurst- another Berlin classis. Those two are super unhealthy, but probably my faves.

What places would you recommend visiting in Berlin?

Viktoriapark in Kreuzberg for some nature (but there are many nice little parks everywhere in the city), Weinmeisterstraße for shopping and Markthalle 9 for a food market.

Is it good to eat out in Berlin? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, there are also some cheaper places. Just look for nice little café's / restaurants and support them! I never got disappointed. A pricey but nice place is Alans Breakfast Club. If you like it cheaper, try Café Morgenrot for Brunch.

Is the nightlife good in Berlin? Where is good to go?

Berlin is well known for it's Techno scene and there are many good clubs. Don't get your hopes up too high and queque at Berghain on your first weekend. You will probably get turned away and disappointed.. Easier to get in are Ritter Butzke, Tresor, Anomalie. Still make sure to know the DJ's

What advice would you give future students heading to Berlin?

enjoy!!
