Experience in Berlin, Germany by Bely

How do you find living in Berlin? Do you recommend it? How is it?

It seems like a beautiful city to me with a lot to do. Berlin's only problem is its Winter which is very, very cold. Otherwise, it is completely recommendable.

How is student life in Berlin?

There is a really good student atmosphere. It's one of the German cities with the most Erasmus students, which means there are many parties and events aimed for students.

How much does it cost to live in Berlin?

It depends on whether you live in student halls or a flat. Prices for halls can vary from approximately €200 and €300. Flats are from €300. Grocery shopping is relatively cheap at around €100 or €150 if you like to eat well. If we add transport and leisure to this... it's another €100 a month.

Did you find it difficult to find accommodation in Berlin? Can you give any advice?

It's very difficult to find accommodation in Berlin. The prices have risen a lot in the past few years due to the high demand and the flat conditions are especially the best. I would recommend living in halls if you get the opportunity, except in Studentendorf, of which I've heard many bad reviews.

How is the country's food? What are your favourite dishes?

German food isn't to my taste but there are restaurants which aren't German, where you can eat really well.

Which places do you recommend to visit in Berlin?

The East Side Gallery, Mauerpark on Sundays, the television tower and eating at the restaurant which is found above, etc...

And to eat in Berlin? Can you name your favourite places?

I haven't been here long enough to tell you my favourite restaurants but, you can eat especially well at the television tower restaurant. Then right next to the East Side Gallery, there is a small stand that sells really delicious, traditional German currywurst.

Any advice you want to give to future students in Berlin?
