Why did you choose to go to Berlin, Germany?
Because I knew some German, but above all because it seemed like one of the best cities in Germany, it's multicultural and alternative, with infinite possibilities... It's definitely the perfect place to open your mind and push yourself to explore lots of new things.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
It was for 6 months and I got €250 a month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Berlin?
I was in a laboratory so I didn't have a lot of contact with the university, however my friends were there and the university is very big, there are a few of them in the city and there are a lot of other Erasmus students.
Would you recommend the city and the university of Berlin to other students?
Without a shadow of a doubt.
What is the food like there?
The food in Germany has a lot of variety and delicious things, but Berlin is pretty much made up of restaurants from all over the world, so finding food you like will be easy.
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Berlin?
I was in a student residence and I got my place there pretty easily... but I know, from other people, that it's not as easy to find yourself a flat.
How much does it cost to live in Berlin?
I spent at least around €650, including €200 of rent, but also went out partying and went travelling quite a lot.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the university?
German is difficult, but everyone speaks English there, so it's not hard to make yourself understood.
There are courses at the university before and during the semester, but I didn't attend any of them, they were a bit expensive for my budget.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Berlin from your home city?
By flying... I'm from Madrid.
Where would you recommend for a night out in Berlin?
Well, there are loads of places! It depends what you're into, but the most alternative neighbourhood are the best to go out in, there are lots of places near Warschauer Straße.
And to eat in Berlin? What are some of your favourite places to go?
Well, I couldn't tell you, there are all kinds of places... But the Mauerpark market is one of the best places without a doubt.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
There are dozens of museums and lots of urban art.
Do you have any advice for students coming to Berlin in the future?
Bear in mind that everything closes on Sundays! Then it's not nice to have nothing in your fridge! Have a good time!
