Erasmus Experience in Berlin, Germany by Basel
Why did you choose to go to Berlin, Germany?
For conducting the third semester of master programme that is held at five universities in different countries in Europe. Germany is well-known for its excellent education system and friendly environment.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
The scholarship is two years with monthly funding of 1000 Eur throughout.
What is the student lifestyle like in Berlin?
A bit expensive in terms of accommodation and life expenses in comparison to Cottbus for instance; however, it is full of fun and enjoyments.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Berlin to other students?
Yes, it is a good university in such a fun place.
What is the food like?
Well, it depends on your cultural background. But, in general, all types of food commodities and restaurants can be located in the city to satisfy your tummy.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Berlin?
Nope!
How much does it cost to live in Berlin?
Around 650~1000 Eur as a student according to your lifestyle and sense of needs.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Again, it depends on your individual tendencies; however, the German language is not easy yet possible to be grasped within a relatively short period of time.
There are language courses available every where.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Berlin from your city?
By flight.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Berlin?
To the library... I'm kidding!
I don't have a specific location, place or spot. It is worthy to try all what Berlin has.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Berlin?
I am more into cooking actually.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Well, obviously the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Television Tower and The Berlin Wall Memorial and Documentation Centre.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Berlin in the future?
Buying a bike is not a bad idea!
