What is it like to live in Belfast? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Belfast is a great city to live in if you want a unique experience whilst still living in part of the UK. Belfast offers both stunning spots for sightseeing such as Cave Hill but also comprises everything you need for an urban lifestyle such as plenty of shopping centres, entertainment, bars and restaurants.
What is the student lifestyle like in Belfast?
There's a lot for students to do in Belfast. Queens university and Ulster University have great student networks and there's many student clubs which will cater to any hobby, such as trampolining, rowing and climbing.
Queens also offer a great gym called the PEC with special prices for students.
How much does it cost to live in Belfast?
It's the cheapest city for students to live in the UK. Rents around Queens university are around £200-300 per month.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Belfast? Is there any advice you can give?
There's many student houses around Queen's University. Botanic Avenue would be the best area to live in, which is very close to the city centre, restaurants, clubs and fast food outlets, only a five-minute walk from Queens and Botanic Gardens.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Belfast offers a wide variety of cuisines. Try Scalini's on Botanic Avenue for tasty Italian dishes, Boojum and Chiquitos for Mexican gastronomy. Maggie May's also offers traditional Northern Irish food. You should definitely try our Ulster Fry for a hangover cure!
What places would you recommend visiting in Belfast?
Go to the Dome in Victoria Square for a panoramic view of Belfast. Also make sure to visit the Titanic visitor centre if you're interested in history. You can take a bus to Newcastle and hike the Mourne Mountains or walk up Cave Hill and visit the Belfast Zoo while you're there.
Is the nightlife good in Belfast? Where is good to go?
There are many clubs and bars in Belfast. Try Filthys and Cuckoos for casual drinks. Ollies, Limelight, El Divino and Villa are all popular with students. Limelight is closest to the uni, very popular on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
What advice would you give future students heading to Belfast?
Make the most of social activities planned by the university and join lots of clubs. Belfast is renowned for its friendly people and tourist spots. You'll have lots of fun in Belfast if you study here!
