To live in Beirut is a unique experience and if you want to live there for your studies you have to be mindful and be aware of your surroundings otherwise you will mill a lot and I would recommend it to a certain extent. The city is like a time bomb where everyone is living like a war is going to happen soon yet you won't find a city in the middle east with better nightlife and entertainment similar to las vegas without the casinos.
