Erasmus Experience in Bari, Italy by Edit
Why did you choose to go to Bari, Italy?
Because in 2007 I spent a month in Calabria and I loved it, so I decided to get back to South-Italy again.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I've been in Bari for 2 semesters. I got 375 euro extra from my University per month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Bari?
I like mostly cultural programs, so for me, it was a bit boring.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Bari to other students?
To be honest I would not recommend it. Sorry to say it, but I did not feel safe in the city you cannot go anywhere alone. I also had some bad experiences - homeless people attacked the bus driver at 3 p. m. on the bus and someone broke my car window and took my stuff after two weeks of being there... This is my experience, maybe I was so unfortunate.
What is the food like?
The food is very, very good and quite cheap. Especially in the restaurant "Rustico" for 10 euro, you can eat as much as you can. The food was also good in the mensa, I liked it a lot.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Bari?
I organized the booking of my apartment. I didn't pay for anyone.
How much does it cost to live in Bari?
I spent about 500 euro monthly in Bari but my appartment costed 380 euro.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
For us, there was no possibility of making a language course.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Bari from your city?
For me, the cheapest was to take the plane between Budapest and Bari (Palese).
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Bari?
There are a few nice pubs in the city center.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Bari?
Rustico is the best, I guess.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
The churches and the castle are nice to visit.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Bari in the future?
Take care about each other and don't go anywhere alone.
