Erasmus experience in Bari, Italy by Maria

Why did you choose Bari, Italy?

I wanted to live in South Italy.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I receive 250 € a month, I use that money to pay most of the rent expenses.

What is the student lifestyle like in Bari?

Amazing, we are like a little big family. Italian students are very warm.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Bari to other students?

Absolutely, I’m having the time of my life.

What is the food like?

Super tasty, everybody knows Italian food.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Bari?

No, it didn't take long.

How much does it cost to live in Bari?

It’s cheap compared to other Italian cities.

Is the language easy to get grips with? Are there any language courses available at the University?

I didn’t attend any course, but if you make the effort, you can learn Italian fast.

What is the cheapest way to travel to Bari from your city?

By plane. I have to make a stopover because there isn’t direct flights from Santander.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Bari?

I recommend Riva Club located in the city centre and you can go walking. The 12.03 is also nice but you have to catch the bus. The main party in Bari is in “El Chiringuito”, where Erasmus students hang out to have drinks and dance. Such bar is on Lungomare Pier.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Bari?

You can find some great typical Italian restaurants around Bari Vecchia. I also recommend Donato and Piccini 28 pizzerias.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Bari is a very interesting city with its castle, Lungomare Pier and local women cooking pasta in the old town. Around Bari you can find Polignano a Mare, Alberobello and Matera, which are wonderful places.
