Erasmus Experience in Bari, Italy by Martin
Why did you choose to go to Bari, Italy?
Because it was a city in the south of Italy with a big University and the department I wanted.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
It was 5 months, one semester. I received 460€ officially per month but, at the end the sum is lower. If your country doesn't have money, that depends on currency rate how much money you get. But 460€ is enough for having a modest life here.
What is the student lifestyle like in Bari?
Students are very relaxed and they don't bother too much. In my experience, if you know the course language very well, exams are a piece of cake.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Bari to other students?
It depends on what they are interested for.
What is the food like?
You must enjoy ice-cream, croissants (corneto), and other food.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Bari?
No, because I found it before I came to Bari. Campus X is nice. Maybe it is a little bit far away from old town but you get used to it. Private apartments are not expensive comparing Campus X but the interior is quite bad.
How much does it cost to live in Bari?
The accommodation is about 250-300€ and life around 200-250€ or more for better fun.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?
It is not difficult if you are eager to learn it. Courses in Italian are tough if you don't know it very well so try to find English courses to get it easier. There was not any courses in my semester.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Bari from your city?
Bus + ferry.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Bari?
Hard question. You must discover it by yourself.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Bari?
Le Chat Noir is a fine place but as in previous question all depends on your tastes.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Bari old city, and plenty other small towns in all Puglia.
Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Bari?
Be patient with Italian customs, traffic...
