What is it like to live in Baku? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Hello! My name is Orkhan Hajiyev and I want to tell you about my country-Azerbaijan. Capital of Azerbaijan is Baku.

Baku is a very rich city. We have oil, gas, gold, and a lot of other natural resources. Here live some of the richest people in the world. We have a lot of very most expensive cars. Life here is great...

Baku is a new and an old city at the same time. I can boast that Baku is one of the most modern and much-visited cities in the world. I can tell you honestly that the people here live in either very rich or very poor. Residents of the middle category does not exist. I recommend living in Baku if you are a foreigner, because we love aliens and create for them a nice convenience.

What is the student lifestyle like in Baku?

Student life in Baku is not so interesting as in other countries. Here fellow students do not out and do not go to clubs, as our Muslim country, we still have our customs. Currently in Baku, there are several universities which teach well.

How much does it cost to live in Baku?

Baku is very expensive city. I would say almost as in Switzerland. Products are too expensive, despite the fact that we ourselves produce products. Gasoline is not very expensive when compared to the countries of Europe.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Baku? Is there any advice you can give?

Find accommodation in Baku is very easy. Find a place is so easy, walking down the street, you can ask any person where there give an apartment to rent, they will immediately say who gives the apartment. But if you want to rent a nice apartment in the center of the city it will be expensive at least 600-700 euros per month. Here's a live example from me: we have an extra apartment in the center of Baku, and we give it to tourists for 2000 euros. And if you do not want an expensive apartment with good facilities, then you will not be easy to find.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food here is very tasty. Many tourists like our national food like:

  • Dolma;
  • Pilaf;
  • Shish Kebab;
  • Hash.

In our restaurants you can find any kind of tasty food from other countries. Our food contains a lot of calories.

What places would you recommend visiting in Baku?

In Baku there are so many beautiful and interesting places. Azerbaijan is a symbol of 3 towers and it is called Flame towers. Until these towers became a symbol of Baku was the so-called "Maiden Tower". It was built in the 17th century and still stands intact.

There are Boulevard where people gather in the evening for that would walk, run and do sports.

And then there's "Old City" which is located inside the new city.

You can still visit the "Сrystal Hall" built for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012, which is the largest room in Europe for Eurovision.

Is it good to eat out in Baku? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

My favorite places where I eat are:

  • Opera Launge,
  • Theatre Launge,
  • Opera Sky,
  • Restaurant in Flame Towers.

For tourists who have come to just see the city, then these restaurants, I advise you not to because they are very expensive restaurants. You can eat at cheaper places + eat tasty.

Is the nightlife good in Baku? Where is good to go?

Night in Baku is very beautiful. Everywhere if full of lights, all the most expensive cars out on the street... Nightclubs here are many, but not all good. I walk only in the most expensive clubs that would have had a lot of comfort. The expensive clubs are much more interesting than the disco clubs. I would recommend you go to the Opera Sky (one of the best clubs in Baku which is located in the 29th floors).

What advice would you give future students heading to Baku?

I recommend you to visit this wonderful city. Azerbaijanis are very hospitable people, and they will meet you with a smile on his face. Currently, Baku is growing rapidly and in 2020 it will be one of the most beautiful and vibrant cities in the world.
