What To Do and Where To Eat In Austin!
Austin is an amazing city! It is so fun and there is so much to do! I recently visited Austin and went for three days. It was very humid, which didn’t bother me but it does get pretty warm during the summers. Austin is also a great food city; there is so much to eat whether its brunch or BBQ they have it all. Food trucks have been gaining lots of popularity over the years in Austin. There are any spots around Austin where there will be a cluster of food trucks. Austin is also home to two very well known universities; St. Edwards and University of Texas.
There are a ton of lakes in Austin as well and one lake goes through the city in which you can go to and rent paddle boards or kayaks. This lake is very fun and they have little beach areas you can go to and lay out on. They have different beach areas with rentals as well and there are always people on the lake! There is also a path and bridges to go running around this area and hikes. It is a beautiful area with lots of trees and always people outdoors.
There’s a street called South Congress or SoCo with many shops and restaurants on it. This is a great street to walk and to see everything as well as to explore the city and get a bite to eat! South Congress has a lot of stores to shop and home stores as well. Located here is a Kendra Scott, a very popular jewelry store in Texas. There are a lot of restaurants located on SoCo and even food trucks! Some restaurants include:
South Congress Café: great brunch, has an assortment of everything. My favorite was the carrot cake French toast.
Hopdoddy: The best burgers in Texas! This place is very good and well known. There’s usually a wait around the corner so make sure you get there before the line!
Home Slice- they give you a huge slice of pizza and it is amazing! So cheesy and good, they also have great rice Krispy treats.
Magnolia Café South- this place is a great over all breakfast and lunch! They have absolutely everything, a very old famous diner!
Güero's Taco Bar: Great Mexican food, the chips they serve you at first are so good. We ate them right there and then had to ask for more! Very good tacos and they have a taco bar you can go up and get it yourself.
Wahoos Fish Taco: Great fish place, lots of items on the menu!
Ms. P’s Electric Cock Fried Chicken- this place is the bomb! The fried chicken is amazing, they have a lot of food on the menu and it is so good. They have a great truffled mac ‘n cheese as well as tacos, chicken n waffles, or just waffles, corn, fries. This place is so good! You have to try it honestly there’s nothing else like it.
Jo's Coffee- Great spot for coffee, it also holds the famous I love you sign on the wall where you can take cute pictures.
Thundercloud Subs- great subs! Way better than the chain restaurants!
Hey Cupcake- this is a food truck and they had very good cupcakes! You can get an assortment or however many you want of the same one! It's so good.
Burro Cheese Kitchen- this is a food truck just for grilled cheese! Amazing! They were very good and cheesy, lots of flavors and varieties.
Amy’s ice cream- best ice cream ever! This place is so good and you chose your ice cream and what add-ins you want, oh my gosh it was amazing.
Juice Austin- this is a cute little food truck that makes fresh juice for you! Very refreshing especially on a hot day!
Theres a lot of other great restaurants in Austin but not located on SoCo, here are some other ones:
Salt Lick BBQ- this place is a little far because it is on a ranch so maybe like 40 min drive. This place is very fun though because there is music and you can sit outside. It is almost like a picnic because you bring your own alcohol because they don’t serve there. You can see the big bbq pit burning everything up which is really cool. You should get the family special so you get all you can eat and you can take your leftovers home with you. The bbq was amazing, ribs, pork, turkey with bread and cole slaw and potatoes! And then for dessert pecan pie which was so good.
Franklin BBQ- this place is supposedly the best bbq in town but there’s always a huge line and once it runs out that’s it! So you have to get there early enough to not wait in a huge line and get your food.
1886 Café & Bakery- This place is located in a hotel and it is very cute. The breakfast is the best though. They have a waffle in the shape of Texas, which is really cute as well as great French toast and eggs. It is also a bakery so lots of bread and fresh made croissants and, what not, it is located on 6th street which is a fun little area in Austin.
Easy Tiger- Easy Tiger Chill Bar and Bakery with Craft Snacks is a great place to go to hang out. It has a beer garden, which is cool, it is very big and you can walk around the place. It is so cool has a little river flowing right through it. The food is amazing too they have huge pretzels and amazing baked goods. Great place to go and chill.
Gourdoughs Public House- this place has the best insane donuts ever! The donuts are stopped with so many things for example we got the brownie donut which had brownies all over it with a chocolate frosting and chocolate sauce all on the top. Hence the name gourdoughs! They also have a food truck as well. We went to the actual restaurant. They had a ton of different donuts, which were all amazing; my other favorite one was the cake batter one. It was a yellow cake donut with chocolate frosting and cake batter sauce all over it!
Churro Co. Austin- this is a food truck that serves you up churros with lots of toppings! This is an amazing place because you can get whatever you want on top of your churro. They have an s’mores churro with melted marshmallows on top with graham cracker sprinkles and chocolate.
Liberty Kitchen- this place is great and has an assortment of food. Lots of seafood and sandwiches. My favorite here was the mac & cheese it was homemade! So good.
La Barbecue – This BBQ place is amazing as well, they have everything you would need or want! The pulled pork brisket was amazing as well as the buttermilk bacon potato salad! Yum!
Cream whiskers – This is a bakery and a coffee shop. The desserts are so good, they have cream puffs with a lot of cream inside and they have many different flavors. My favorite was the Oreo one; it had a ton of cream with Oreo cookies. The coffee was great as well. Very artisan place, I loved it!
