What is it like to live in Austin? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I am born and raised in Austin, and I really love living here. I would absolutely recommend it to a foreigner as well! It is kind of a hippie vibe here, but things have changed a bit in the last ten years. There is a lot of focus on water based activities (kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming) as it gets very hot in the summer - which is the only draw back. It is a very openminded city and there is lots of nature to explore.

What is the student lifestyle like in Austin?

I have never been a college student in Austin, but it looks very fun. Lots of night life, delicious food and sporting events to go to. The college students seem to go out a lot, but also explore nature!

How much does it cost to live in Austin?

I would say it is less than some big cities in the US, but it is definitely expensive while you can find cheaper options. You can find a room in a house in a not so coveted area for as low as 600-650, but as much as 850 in a more popular area. For one bedrooms/studios it can go as low as 850-900, but as high as 2000 in like the downtown area. Overall, you can find affordable options - would definitely recommend roommates to find a cheaper place!

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Austin? Is there any advice you can give?

It is super easy to find accommodation in Austin through facebook groups and craigslist.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There is a lot of tex-mex here and tacos! I really love breakfast tacos and the vegan food scene is good too.

What places would you recommend visiting in Austin?

I would recommend visiting The oasis, P6 (rooftop bar), Mount Bonnell, lady bird lake hike and bike trail, and some of the surrounding wineries and breweries in the hill country.

Is it good to eat out in Austin? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, it's awesome!

Favorite thai: Titaya's or Thai Fresh.

Favorite tex mex: Vivo and Tamale House.

Love The Beer Plant for vegan food.

Is the nightlife good in Austin? Where is good to go?

6th street is the most popular and it is divided into three hot spots: East, Dirty and West. East is my favorite because it is more diverse and hipster. Dirty is where all bachelorette parties will be and West is a little more hoity toity. Rainey is also for bachelorette parties, but super fun on Sundays for day drinking!
