I want to find a house NOW!

My experience in Annecy, France, by Agathe

What's life like in Annecy? Would you recommend living in this city?

It's amazing! The area is stunning, summer is very relaxing, and in the winter you can go skiing. I'd recommend coming here for holidays or even to live here, but the cost of living is very expensive.

What's student life like in Annecy?

Not the best. There are lots of schools and universities, but the student nights out and nightclubs aren't the best. There are some around, but they're not really my sort of thing. It's better to either go out in Geneva (the closest Swiss city) or go around your friends' apartments.

What's the cost of living like in Annecy?

Really high, the price of an apartment can soar if you don't have any financial help, or if you live close to the lake.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Annecy? Do you have any advice?

I'm not too sure as I stayed with my family. But there are some places which offer student accommodation (there are quite a few buildings around the campuses), or you can look for accommodation yourself on house sharing/ real estate websites. There are lots of places you can rent.

What's the local food like?

French cuisine is one of the best in the world! And food from the Savoy region is the tastiest! If you love wine, you'll definitely be happy here.

What places should people visit in Annecy?

The old town is very pretty, and the chateau isn't too far away either. Anywhere near the lake is also really nice. For those who are a bit more adventurous, you can go hiking up mountains (like Mont Veyrier).

As there's a lake, there are loads of aquatic activities to do too.

And where's good to eat? What are some of your favourite places?

I only eat fast food when I eat out. Although l'étage is a good restaurant where you can try all sorts of specialities.

What's the nightlife like in Annecy? Where are some good places to go?

Pretty quiet. I'd go to Geneva if you want more of a party. There are some events in Annecy where you can go and dance, but these are only in summer.

Any other advice for students about to come to Annecy?

Be prepared to eat, drink, and ski like true pros. The people are all really welcoming and friendly. If you're a party animal, get creative!
