Experience in Ancona, Italy by Gaya
What is it like to live in Ancona? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I would recommend Ancona to Erasmus students for some reasons.
First of all, the town is not big and students can easily walk around to reach and visit the most important places. Moreover, for Economics students, the University is located just in the city centre. And this is important, also because public transport are not excellent and taxi are expansive.
Then, Ancona is located in the centre of Italy and it could be a good starting point to have trips and visit all entire country.
Finally, Ancona is in the heart of Monte Conero which forms an amazing landscape in the sea and Portonovo beach is one of the most beautiful in Italy.
How much does it cost to live in Ancona?
Living in Ancona does not cost too much, since it is not a turistic city and prices are affordable with respect to other italian cities, both of the bars and restaurants, and of the house rents. They are around 200/300 euros per month. The average expense for having dinner out is 15/20 euro.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Ancona? Is there any advice you can give?
Find an accomodation in Ancona is not so difficult because there aren't many many students and the university has some residences available.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food, as in all Italy, is very good. Our specialities are mussels, stockfish and the tastier version ever of lasagna which is called "vincisgrassi".
What places would you recommend visiting in Ancona?
I would recommend to visit Passetto and Monte Conero with his amazing beaches and landscapes.
Is it good to eat out in Ancona? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
It is very good to eat out in Ancona. Students can enjoy of cheap and unlimited buffets in Piazza del Papa, where they pay just for what they drink and it is about 6 or 8 euros. My favourite places are Raval, Ravaletto and also Caffè Giuliani.
Is the nightlife good in Ancona? Where is good to go?
Nightlife in Ancona is improving a lot thanks to many staffs that are organizing parties in different locations. Of course, Piazza del Papa is a good starting point to drink sometimes before going partying.
.
What advice would you give future students heading to Ancona?
I would tell them to know as many people as possible, but not just other erasmus students. My recommendation is to know people from Ancona because they know better the city and what are the best places, parties and restaurants.
