Erasmus Experience in Ancona, Italy by Paulina
Why did you choose to go to Ancona, Italy?
I chose it because I wanted to go to Italy and because in that city there is a professional basketball club and I wanted to continue playing.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I'm here only for one semester. I guess 500 euro is enough to survive, but one must try to be extremely thrifty.
What is the student lifestyle like in Ancona?
Ancona is quite a quiet city, only a few parties, but I met some great people who have made this adventure amazing.
Would you recommend the city and the Polytechnical University of Marche to other students?
Yes, to people who don't want to party every day and to those who want to rest, to see beautiful sea and mountain landscapes and to those who don't want to spend a lot of money.
What is the food like?
Italian food is delicious! Especially coffee and croissants (brioche in Italian).
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Ancona?
I didn't have to pay, but I know some people had to.
How much does it cost to live in Ancona?
To live in Ancona costs about 500 euros per month.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes and yes.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Ancona from your city?
Blablacar.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Ancona?
There are not so many places... only Sui Club and Irish pub and some other small pubs.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Ancona?
Not really, but Italian people are very helpful if it is going to be about food recommendation.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
I don't know.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Ancona in the future?
It is better for you to live in the city centre because there are no night buses so it is hard to live far away from the "heart of the city". The best localization is Passetto, around Economic Faculty, Port, and Ugo Bassi, which is also good, but it is about 20-25 min walking from the city.
