Bad start for Marketing

So, the other German girl and I were taking the Bus to the economics faculty. After 5 minutes we discovered that we were in the wrong bus - there were two which were circling around the city in 2 different directions. And we took the one which would go the other direction - so we would not arrive within 20 but within 40 minutes. Too late for the course. But okay, there is nothing too bad arriving late for 10 minutes. We thought.

Finally, we arrived - found a completely filled room with a weird professor talking in front of the students. We crossed the front of the room to two places in the first row that were still free and sat down quickly and as quiet as possible. He didn't say anything, but he noticed us entering for sure. He was talking about Marketing, the course and rules. One of them as arriving on time - fail in the first lesson... He continued and we noticed that we could understand him quite well because he was speaking loudly (even without microphone I guess everyone could understand him which was impressing) and had a clear voice. Furthermore, he was speaking slowly. A thing that 99, 9% of the French people don't do. So, for the way of speaking I liked him, but in general I was a bit scared because he seemed to be very strict and of course I didn't understand everything he said.

He talked about the plan for the course and then he said something like "in my course the winners will be the students that study a lot at home, every week" and he announced that there would be a test each week about the things from the week before. My friend and I were shocked - how could we do that? But we decided to try, what could happen more than not pass one course? And at least there would not be a large exam at the end of the course. Furthermore, we found out that the course would not be every week, but only at 8 dates spread through the whole semester until April. That was quite cool, because I already hated having a lecture from 5 to 8 p. m. On Thursdays. I was tired and wanted to sleep!

So, he started with his (thank God) PowerPoint presentation and I understood more than in the other lectures because of his way of speaking. He also said something about a Facebook Group were we would find all the course material - that shocked me because he seemed so old school and which professor would upload his data in Facebook?! But as I was searching it, I really found a Facebook Group with all the presentations - another advantage.

Well, the disadvantage was that there was a test right after the first lecture. I was a bit scared because he said the task one time and then we had 5 minutes to do it. But it was not too difficult, and I thought that I had done it quite well. He would tell us the results soon he said and finished the lesson. While leaving the room I saw many French students with shocked faces, so I assumed that he was really an exception among the professors and I was sure that a large part of the students would not come to the next lesson. But I liked his style of teaching - it was simple and just: if you are there and pay attention you will have a good grade.

Still a bit scared but proud of myself for having written my first French exam I took the bus home and fell into bed - tired and curious which surprise the next day would offer to me.
