Free weekend
Exploring my new home
After that first day at Amiens full of bureaucracy and events I just wanted to stay in bed and relax, because I was still very tired. But the other part of me wanted to get up and explore the city I would live in for the next 5 or 6 months. So finally I got up, found out how to take the bus into the city centre and started to explore.
Even if it was January and I was in the North of France it was a surprisingly sunny and warm day. So it was perfect to stroll around the city! As it was the first time I was visiting a new city completely alone I felt a bit lost at first, but then I just liked it. I took pictures of everything nice I saw, went to hidden places and streets away from all the other people. I started to feel the French atmosphere and I totally loved the city. It has the same size as the city I am studying in in Germany and it had a lot more similarities. Small streets, a lot of bars and cafés, little cute shops, a large cathedral (of course, the one at Amiens is much more impressing, but anyway) and a university. When I first saw the cathedral of Amiens I was just impressed. It was SO large! I already heard that it's the biggest Notre Dame in whole France, even bigger than the one in Paris. But until that moment I could not imagine that.
Next to the cathedral was a cute little park and at the other side there was the river with a lot of small restaurants and bars next to it - it looked a bit like Venice. I decided to eat something and relax a bit before I continued my tour. I passed by the large and nice train station, discovered a beautiful caroussel and went into some nice shops, but without buying something. Then I was tired and even if it was sunny it became a bit cold, so I decided to get home and pass by the supermarket to buy some important things for my room. After having finished that, the internet was still not working, so I watched some series and got warm again. I was thinking about a lot of things - how to manage my courses, which level of language I might have, how all that would work out the next week. Because the semester did already start the week I arrived but I couldn't come earlier as I had a lot of exams in Germany to finish.
So I was a bit scared and worried what Monday would offer to me. But before, there was still Sunday - a day to relax and hopefully fix the internet.
