More new people and lectures

Finally, it was Friday and there was only one thing waiting for me - another new professor and two lectures with him. Fortunately, the other German girl took the same lectures so I was not alone in the small group of the Tutorial. It was the only first semester course I had taken, so I expected that there were maybe some nicer people than in the 3rd semester courses where everyone had already found his friends and his group.

But actually, it was the same thing. We entered and they were immediately looking at us, so they noticed that we were not from their course actually. It was even worse because there were only 20 persons in the course. The professor was already there, talking to a young girl but I couldn't understand about what. So we were sitting down in one of the middle rows in order to understand him at least a little bit and I asked one girl next to me what they did the last week. But actually there was no course the week before which meant that we didn't miss anything.

There were still some minutes until the course would start and one of the students was asking us if we talk French and where we came from originally. In order to be nice we asked him if he could speak some German, but his arrogant answer was simply "No, what for? ". So we decided not to talk to him anymore and fortunately the lesson started at that moment.

I didn't have the smallest idea what he was talking about - the problem was that there was a semester before we arrived and the course had already started then, so it was "Part 2" now and we were missing the basis. But he told us that there would be no question about the first part in any exam, so it was okay.

The lecture afterwards was in the large group - the first lecture was a kind of Tutorial were the students of the whole semester were divided into groups and the other one was like the "main lecture" with all the basics and so on. That one started already the week before and I didn't understand anything because the professor seemed to have no structure at all and was speaking very silently. But 2 hours later it was done - WEEKEND! Start of a weekend full of events and new people.

The first weekend - full of events and new people

The first thing was an evening in a small Pub in the city centre in order to get to know other Erasmus people. I was quite curious but also a bit afraid, because usually I am a bit shy and it's not my strength to get to know new people. But well, that's why I was doing the year abroad! It was a quite nice evening, I got to know some new people from other countries and we were talking about the standard things, like where are you from, what are you doing, how do you like France, what are you studying, why did you choose France etc. It was quite interesting to hear the answers to those questions from so many different people because everyone had another reason why he was here. Nobody of them was studying economics (what I could fully understand after the first week of French lectures), most of them were doing English or French in order to become a teacher afterwards.

The next day I slept in because I was so tired of that first week and we stayed at the Pub quite long. I had a Facebook message of somebody who wanted to write a bit in English with me in order to improve his language skills and even if I didn't know how he found me, I agreed because he seemed to be quite nice.

The remaining program for the week was a guide through the city which would end in a café in order to relax and get warm again. It was raining, but anyway we saw some spots from Amiens which we didn't know before. We saw the museum, took the first group-picture and got to know each other even better. In the café we drank a coffee and talked a bit about several things, exchanged phone numbers and finally, I felt totally integrated in my new life. It was a nice feeling to get to know people from all over the world and I loved it to speak French and English the whole time.

On Sunday one of the English girls from my first evening invited me to come over (she was living in the same residence as I was) and have Scottish dinner with her. Even if I was tired I decided to go there because I really liked here from the beginning on. So we had dinner, I helped her cooking a bit and we talked about our lives, what we were doing and why we were in France. It was a really nice evening and I had the energy to start into the new week at university.
