My Experience in Almeria, Spain by Quina

What was it like living in Almeria? Would you recommend it, and why?

Almeria is a very nice, very quiet city with great weather. It's a place where you can enjoy spending time on the beach, going for a stroll, or playing some sports with sea views in your free time. In the centre there's a really big and busy street with clothes shops.

How much does it cost to live in Almeria?

It depends on what area you choose to live in, but including rent, water, electricity and water, I'd say around 200 euros a month.

Did you struggle to find accommodation in Almeria? Can you offer a few words of advice?

Personally, I didn't have any trouble finding somewhere to live because I already had a friend in Almeria who had a flat. I would suggest posting something in the Facebook page that you're looking for somewhere to stay, as there's always people looking for housemates or places to rent too. There's also usually posters up in the UAL (Universidad de Almería) buildings. If you arrive a bit earlier like July or August, it'll be a lot easier to find a place to live.

What's the host country's food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is really good! I like the typical dishes like paella, Spanish omelette, meat with tomato, pasta...

What places in Almeria would you recommend visiting?

I recommend visiting the Alcazaba, it's really old yet very nice and has a beautiful viewpoint where you can see the whole of the city. Another place to go is Los Refugios Civiles; there's a few small towns around the outskirts like Cabo de Gata o San José, that have stunning beaches.

And to eat in Almeria? Can you name a few of your favourite spots?

In Almeria there's a variety of Italian and Chinese restaurants that are really good. The places I normally go to are 'La cabaña del Tío Tom' right by the beach, and 'La calzada', near the train station.

Where would you recommend going out in Almeria?

In Almeria there's no where else to go than in the city centre where there's the '4 calles' which is where you'll find all the bars and nightclubs. Near Almeria there's a town called Aguadulce which is a great place for a night out, especially on Sundays.
