Juanca in Spain: My Almería Experience

What is it like to live in Almeria? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Almería is a small city and it's easy to get from one side of it to the other. The weather is nice and so are the people. It's a calm and quiet city.

What is the student lifestyle like in Almeria?

There is more of a student atmosphere in the week as most of them usually go home for the weekend. Saying that, this doesn't mean you won't find any students in the city on a Friday or Saturday... of course you will!

How much does it cost to live in Almeria?

It's a cheap city. The prices are similar to any other small city.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Almeria? Is there any advice you can give?

It's not hard to find accommodation. Zapillo is where you'll find the oldest accommodation, with the beach right on its doorstep too. It's also the cheapest. For more modern accommodation, places like La Avenida del Mediterráneo are your best bet.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Spanish food is both varied and really good! In Almería you can find loads of tapas bars where you can grab a bite to eat and something to drink.

What places would you recommend visiting in Almeria?

Alcazaba, Civil War Memorials, the city centre, Cabo de Gata and nearby neighbourhoods. Above all though, make sure you visit the coastal towns.

Is it good to eat out in Almeria? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

I don't recommend any particular place as it's really easy to find good, cheap bars.

Is the nightlife good in Almeria? Where is good to go?

Pubs like Porrón y Alambique. Clubs like Clásica (where all the Erasmus students go) have a great vibe.

What advice would you give future students heading to Almeria?

Make sure you visit the coastal towns in Cabo de Gata and make the most of the beautiful weather.

I don't regret spending the last two years of my degree here at all!
