What is it like to live in Almería? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Almería is not huge, but the sun shines down on it almost every day. It is kind of windy but not cold. The city does not have as many cultural spots to see, but it is filled with wonderful people and amazing beaches to spend all day in.

What is the student lifestyle like in Almería?

It is quite good, since around 500 Erasmus students come each year to Almería, so you can enjoy the interculturality with people from all over the world.

How much does it cost to live in Almería?

You can perfectly live with €400 per month, or sometimes even less. In my case I spent €200 on rent and bills, and another €200 on food, activities and materials.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Almería? Is there any advice you can give?

I recommend to look for Erasmus student pages on Facebook, or to get in touch with the University's international office so they can offer their help.

'El informer de la UAL' is a Facebook page where you can publish whatever you are looking for, and maybe other students will share their needs too.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Well above all enjoy fish, eat as much fish as you can.

Tapas in 'Tío Tom' are the best dish you can enjoy there, the rest of the restaurants are just as normal as they would be in any other place.

What places would you recommend visiting in Almería?

I recommend getting to the Alcazaba, and consider going to the beaches of the nearby villages, like Mojácar, Cabo de Gata...

Is it good to eat out in Almería? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

'Pizza Pino' and 'Tío Tom'. 'Térmica' for drinks.

Is the nightlife good in Almería? Where is good to go?

Yes, actually it is all focused towards Erasmus students. You should enjoy 'La Clásica' and check its surroundings for more 'fiesta'.

What advice would you give future students heading to Almería?

Don't lock yourself at home, try to reach other exchange and local students in the university and enjoy your stay! The weather always tends to be nice, so you have no excuse! And travel, to Granada, Sevilla, Cádiz... There are lots of things to see and do!
