What is it like to live in Almaty? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

The city is developing, and if to compare it with photos of it 10 years ago, the city has completely changed. there are a lot of new buildings, roads, big shopping malls and etc.

What is the student lifestyle like in Almaty?

there are a lot of possibilities for youth, a lot of activities. I mean not only night club working until 5-6 a.m, but also, theatres, museums, ski and skating areas and etc.

How much does it cost to live in Almaty?

for Almaty, average cost of living is around $700-$1000 per month

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Almaty? Is there any advice you can give?

it is better to find an apartment for rent, but the prices depend on its location

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

usually, you can find any kind of meat here, including lamb, beef, chicken and even horse meat. as far as Kazakhstan is multinational country, the dishes depend on individuals` taste. but mostly asian dishes are popular.

What places would you recommend visiting in Almaty?

mountings around Almaty, lakes, canyon, artificial reservoir

Is it good to eat out in Almaty? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

as I wrote before, asian food is more preferable, although there are italian restaurants, fast food, traditional food and so on. as far as I was born and grew up in Kazakhstan and live with my family, I prefer to eat at home

Is the nightlife good in Almaty? Where is good to go?

its perfect, especially for those who love clubbing. also there are numerous lounge bars, cafeterias and so on.

What advice would you give future students heading to Almaty?

use a map and be careful with taxi drivers, because they can cheat you
