Alicante is a coastal city where you can do pretty much everything!
What's the student lifestyle like in Alicante?
The University of Alicante is located in a town called San Vicent del Raspeig, which is about a 20-minute drive or via public transport from Alicante. In this town, there is a big student daily atmosphere, but in terms of nightlife, for partying and socialising, Alicante is much better. The majority of students that live in San Vicente usually go into Alicante for the parties.
How much does it cost to live in Alicante?
I don't think that it is one of the most expensive cities, but it's not especially cheap either. If you know how to look properly, you'll find the bargains!
What’s the country’s food like? What are your favourite dishes?
As the city is located on the Mediterranean coast, the gastronomy in Alicante is one of the best in the world! Most significant is "arroz con costra" (a rice dish similar to paella where the top is baked so that it is crispy), which originates from the city of Elche which is about 20 minutes from Alicante.
What places do you recommend visiting in Alicante?
In Alicante, there are lots of beautiful places like the old town which is located on the walk up to the Castle of Santa Barbara.
Also, the towns on the coast nearby to Alicante have a real charm. For example, Calpe, Altea or Alfás del Pi are very recommendable coastal villages that you could visit, and Elche is also a city that has two UNESCO Heritage Sites.
What about eating out in Alicante? What are your favourite places?
Any taps bar if you are looking for something cheap or there are restaurants that do really good food but they are a bit more expensive.
Where do you recommend for nightlife in Alicante?
El Barrio (the old town) is the best area for partying in Alicante. If you ask anyone, they will tell you to go there.
Do you have any advice for future students in Alicante?
