The university is in San Vicente, which is about 15 or 20 minutes from Alicante and the majority of students live in that area. However, there are also lots of students in the area by the market, so there is always a good atmosphere in that part of the city.

How much does it cost to live in Alicante?

Alicante isn't an expensive city, so it doesn't cost much to live here. In comparison with other cities in Spain, the cost of food and the bills are affordable. The rent price for flats is around 200 euros a month.

Was it difficult to find accommodation in Alicante? Do you have any advice?

I have always lived here, so I can't give any advice on this. I know that there is a wide variety of flats near to the university, but also there are lots of students.

What’s the country’s food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food in Spain is really good. Some of the typical dishes are paella, Spanish omelette, patatas bravas, tapas etc.

What places do you recommend visiting in Alicante?

Above all, I recommend the area by the Explanada, the port, and the walkway past the beach. There is also the Rambla and the area by Castanos Street, which always has a good atmosphere. You can also go up to Santa Barbara Castle where you will have views of the whole of Alicante. A bit further out from the centre is "El Palmeral Park", a park with lots of palm trees, with swings and other activities, and a lake too. Just outside of Alicante you can visit lots of interesting towns like Altea, or Benidorm which is a very touristic city.

What about eating out in Alicante? What are your favourite places?

There is a great variety of restaurants and bars where you can eat cheaply in Alicante. From Italian restaurants to kebabs, Chinese, and typical Spanish bars in El Barrio (the old town). I recommend going to the Rambla, as there are lots of places to eat and a party area at the side too, so there is always a good atmosphere.

Where do you recommend for nightlife in Alicante?

El Barrio, which is to the side of the Rambla. It's usually the area where most people go out to party. There are lots of clubs and you can find different types of music. There are also other, bigger clubs like Quinta Avenida or Concerto which people usually go to at about 3. There's also the area on the port where some people go at about 4 o'clock when El Barrio closes. Another bar is Mulligan's which is famous for its beerpong.

Do you have any advice for future students in Alicante?

Enjoy the city, the climate and the beach, and make the most of going out to party and meeting lots of people!
