Fabricio’s Erasmus Experience in Alicante, Spain
Why did you choose to go to Alicante, Spain?
Because where I live, Mendoza (Argentina) is a mountainous area and I wanted to change and live near the sea. Alicante also has an international airport which was what I wanted so that I could travel to different countries at the weekend.
How long was your scholarship? How much money did you receive for support?
The scholarship lasted 6 months and I received some financial help of 1, 000 euros from my university which paid for my round trip flights.
What’s the student lifestyle like in Alicante?
The atmosphere is excellent! I love the diversity of cultures and people from different countries.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Alicante to other students?
Personally, my exchange was with the Miguel Hernandez University. However, I experienced the rest of the city and it was really good, and I actually lived with people from other countries that went to the University of Alicante. Yes, I would recommend it!
What’s the country’s food like?
Excellent! The tapas is classic Spanish food which brings friends together to eat!
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Alicante?
I didn’t find it difficult, there are lots of websites and social media pages that you can use that allow you to find something quickly.
How much does it cost to live in Alicante?
Without travelling and going out at night in the week, approximately four 600 euros.
How is the language? Did you go on a course at the university?
I speak Spanish in my country! So I didn’t have any problems!
What is the cheapest way for you to get to Alicante from your hometown?
Flying of course! (I’m from Argentina)
Which places do you recommend for nightlife in Alicante?
There are lots, I personally love Havana.
What about eating out in Alicante?
100 Montaditos is a typical Spanish chain restaurant, there are lots of Italian ice cream shops in the old town that have excellent prices and are very recommendable.
What about sightseeing?
It is very interesting. The history of the castles, the cities around Alicante are also worth a visit.
Do you have any advice for future students in Alicante?
It’s a beautiful city where the climate is always great, there are beaches and the nightlife is also really good. It isn’t expensive to live there and it is a very recommendable city. I especially recommend it if you like travelling because it is well-connected internationally.
