Why did you choose to go to Alicante, Spain?

I am portuguese, and therefore I love being close to the sea. I couldn't choose a better destination!

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I've been there for one semester. I received a scholarship of 1150€.

What is the student lifestyle like in Alicante?

Spanish people like to party a lot! As I was attending 2 different courses (Chemical Engineering and Sea Sciences) I had a very strange timetable, but I met lots of people. We went to classes together, we went to the beach before classes, we had dinner in our houses, and of course we went partying together.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Alicante to other students?

No doubt! If I had to choose again, I would choose Alicante!

What is the food like?

To be honest I don't like spanish food, comparing to portuguese food. They don't cook rise a lot (almost only in Paella) and you have french fries every day! The food isn't tasty at all. But you can buy and cook your own food and it's not expensive to do this!

Was it hard to find your accommodation in Alicante?

It was easy! I booked a place in a residence before my arrival!

How much does it cost to live in Alicante?

You can find accommodation for 180€ and then 200€ is more than enough for all the rest: transports, food, party, cell phone...

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?

I already had spanish classes in my hometown, so for me it was very easy! Also the language is very similar to portuguese! University provides lowcost spanish courses!

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Alicante from your city?

It's not that easy, although it's close. I used to go by train to Madrid or Valencia and then I caught a Ryanair flight to Porto.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Alicante?

In Barrio there are lots of nice bars with no entrance fee.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Alicante?

To be honest I didn't attend a lot of restaurants.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Castillo de Santa Barbara, St Mary's Church, Alicante Theatre, Marina...

Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Alicante?

Just enjoy it! These will be the best months of your life!
