Andrea’s Erasmus Experience in Alicante, Spain
Why did you choose to go to Alicante, Spain?
Because I looked for a place with a good climate, good prices and somewhere that wasn’t too big.
How long was your scholarship? How much money did you receive as support?
It lasted 9 months.
What’s the student lifestyle like in Alicante?
The areas with atmosphere are where the students are, so San Vicente has a good atmosphere because it is where the university is. In the centre of Alicante there is a good atmosphere and also in San Juan (which is where I live and I am very happy in that area) you will find a great student atmosphere but a little bit more relaxed.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Alicante to other students?
I love the city because it is small and so easy to get around, meet people who are open and approachable.
I think that the University of Alicante needs to polish a few things in terms of administration for new students arriving, but in general my experience has been good and everyone has always helped me whenever possible.
What’s the country’s food like?
The food is great like in all of Spain and it’s cheap too.
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Alicante?
No.
How much does it cost to live in Alicante?
For a room which seems like a house because of its size, including bills it’s about 600 euros a month.
How’s the language? Did you go on a course at the university?
I didn’t have any problems because I’m Spanish.
What’s the cheapest way for you to get to Alicante from your hometown?
Flying, with Norwegian from Tenerife or Ryanair to Valencia.
Which places do you recommend for nightlife in Alicante?
El Barrio (the old town).
What about eating out in Alicante? What are your favourite places?
On the Rambla there are lots of places, my favourite is Mi Andaluza.
What about sightseeing?
There’s barely anything. The castle is the main thing.
Do you have any advice for future students in Alicante?
Get to know the people here because they’re really nice and they will treat you phenomenally.
