Meeting the Landlady
When the driver pulled up outside our new home in the city centre we were anxious and excited that this was going to be our new home. We had driven past a Mc Donalds and KFC so we knew we wouldn't starve and that we were in a good area! But upon trying to communicate with our landlady some doubts about living here started to grow in our minds.
An eccentric young woman greeted us and opened the door to our new flat. She immediately starts speaking in rapid spanish, as if she is so happy by our arrival she cannot help but talk. We assume that she is our new landlady. Inside our flat is her husband, her son and the son's friend who luckily spoke english and spanish. The friend was able to greet us and act as a translator explaining how much the rent would cost, what was included in the price and when it would have to be paid.
Upon first inspection we saw that the flat was absolutely filthy as if it hadn't been cleaned in months, there was a horrible and unidentifiable odour that filled the flat. On top of all this the landlady expected us to pay the whole month's rent upfront and straightaway.
