What is it like to live in Riga? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Riga is a city with very strong character. It has German and Soviet roots, but it's still a very European city. It provides a lot in the means of entertainment and night life, but still manages to be calm and beautiful at the same time. It's nice living in Riga because it's a very growing city - it's expanding and there's always something new and interesting going on!

How much does it cost to live in Riga?

Riga isn't too costly. Of course, it depends on where you want to live - the city center is much more expensive. But there are many suburban areas with many apartment blocks where the cost is lower. Food and drinks are generally cheaper than in many other European countries, but the cost of public transportation has recently increased.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Riga? Is there any advice you can give?

As far as I know, there aren't big problems with finding a place to live in Riga. The place with the biggest quantity of adverts is ss. lv, although it's only available in Latvian and Russian.

What places would you recommend visiting in Riga?

I would recommend visiting the national opera house, explore the old town, take a look at Riga from St Peter's church tower, visit Riga's ZOO and Mežaparks and just explore the city!

Is it good to eat out in Riga? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There is a big variety of food in Riga. You can have anything from national Latvian to gourmet to pizza to fast food. I recommend everyone to visit Lido because it provides delicious Latvian foods at low prices. I recommend the Delisnack and the Flying Frog cafè too.

Is the nightlife good in Riga? Where is good to go?

The nightlife in Riga is wonderful. There are many bars and clubs, most of which ask for no entrance fee. The people enjoying the nightlife are friendly and open (contrary to everyday life where Latvians can be more reserved). I would recommend "Ezitis Migla", "Omes Briljants", "Rock Cafe" or "Fox bar".
