The Flavor of Spain

Published by flag-it Davina Nielsen — 6 years ago

This last summer I was an Au Pair in Zaragoza, Spain, and my family took me for a day of tapas! My favorite restaurant was " Los Victorinos", nestled in the stone walls of the old Zaragoza. The outside windows were adorned with "best restaurant" prizes of years past. Juan, my Spanish dad, told me it was one of the most famous tapas bars in Zaragoza. Upon entering it was quite small, and I was surprised to find there was no chairs or bar stools. The little restaurant consisted only of the bar and a few high tables. Juan explained to me that the reason for the lack of chairs was because you were not supposed to stay long. The point was to simply have a few tapas, a glass of wine, and stroll to the next tapas place. So we did exactly that! The wine was amazing and the tapas were hearty, rich and delicious. Not only was the food rich but so was the history that adorned the walls of the bar. Everywhere you turn there was a poster, or a glorious bull head. This was my favorite spot because the culture and flavor of Zaragoza was not only brought to life through the food, but also the atmosphere. I wrote this note in their book before I left, "Hello, I am a Au pair from Alabama and I love Spain! I think I am going to be fat-- but it is okay because there is more to love! "
