Student life in Zagreb
One of the best things is to be a student in Zagreb. Especially if you are an exchange student living in Zagreb.
First of all, you have to learn how to drink coffee as Croats do. Drinking one cup of coffee can last up to 4 hours. It is our way of socializing. You can see by yourself when you come to the center that there are coffee shops on every step. The main coffee drinking street is Tkalčićeva street. It is right next to Ban Jelačić square. The whole street is full of bars and coffee shops where young people and others who feel like that hang out.
If you want to go somewhere where only locals go then you should visit Žiraffa bar. It's in Gundulićeva street just one tram station from Ban Jelačić square. It is the cheapest bar you can find in Zagreb. Beer is only 10 kuna and a bottle of wine is 40 kuna (5. 3 euro). Students usually go there to drink before going to clubs.
If you are looking for a place to go out I would recommend Hangar club. Its address is Ul. Florijana Andrašeca 14. To get in you'll have to pay 20 kunas. It is my favorite club in Zagreb. Other good places that I would recommend are Gallery which is at Jarun lake, Opera club which is near Ban Jelačić square and Katran. I have to warn you that from the outside it looks like the place you would never even dream to be in(because it is an old factory that they never renovated), but give it a chance. It has 4 floors and on each floor is a different type of music.
There is also a lot of clubs with folk music. You have to go to one of them at least once while you are in Zagreb because it'll be an interesting experience.
Also, Wednesday is a day when students go clubbing, that's why we call it student Wednesday (studentska srijeda). On Wednesday you won't find a seat in Žiraffa because it'll be full of students.
Also, a good tip is not to go into clubs before 1 am because there won't be a lot of people in there. We go to clubs late and stay till 6 am.
I added a few pictures. The first one is from the inside of Hangar (i don't know why but waiters always spit fire while standing on the bar, it's cool to watch)
Also, I've put a picture of Gallery club because it's on the outside and there is a pool in the middle of it so be careful around it, few of my friends ended in it.
And there is a picture of Katran but from the inside; )
I hope you have fun in Zagreb.
