The wonderful York Minster
The York Minster is York's very famous cathedral. Entry is £10 and if you want to climb the tower's 350 steps to get an uninterrupted view of York you will need to pay an extra £5. The climb up the tower is done in guided groups of 15 to 20 people at most. The tower is open at specific hours and could be closed due to bad weather, so choose your day wisely. However, it is definitely worth climbing the tower as you will get a spectacular view of the town as well as a close look at the cathedral's architecture.
The cathedral itself is large and very beautiful. There are free guided tours at certain points in the day. If you would rather go alone it will take a good hour. The cathedral's catacombs open at 10am and you can walk around the converted cellars.
The cathedral's cellars form a circuit which explains the cathedral's history and its construction. At the end of the loop there are a few costumes that I recommend you try on for some photos, they will be a funny memory of your visit to the cathedral.
I recommend that you visit the cathedral in the morning, there will be fewer people and you can better appreciate the cathedral's beauty. However, don't go as soon as it opens because the tower, the catacombs and other rooms wont be open. With a little luck you might be able to hear the echo of the organ, so listen out.
