Worcester Cathedral

Published by flag-it Cristian Fabi — 5 years ago

The Cathedral in Worcester is very nice. It is in the city center, near the Severn River and it is pretty big for a town of this size. It is amazing because I did not feel like it was so big from the outside, but then we stepped in and it was cool. From St. John’s campus we did not simply walk straight and then crossed the bridge we normally cross, but we walked an alternative path which led us to the second bridge, the one that is famous, I guess.

At that point, there are lots of swans swimming around. We arrived at the cathedral but we could not go inside because there was a mass going on, so we just left for a little bit and then went back and entered it. There were still lots of people in it. The inside did not amaze me as much as the outside because I have seen nicer cathedrals in terms of stuff to see, but there were the King John’s tomb and the crypt.

There is also a garden in the inside which is really a cemetery. The square on its outside also did not amaze me as much. People from here are really proud of it because according to them it is quite new, and it makes me wonder how it used to be.

There is also a tower and from there it is possible to see the whole city, and apparently the countryside around it, but we could not go up because it is only open on Saturdays and for only a few hours, but we are planning to go these days since the weather is still pretty nice. When we got there we were told a little bit of the history of the building, and we found out that it was begun in 1084! It is amazing to think about it.

In order to get to the top of the tower, people under sixteen years of age pay two pounds, everyone else pays four. It used to be free for students in the past but now there is no student discount. The view is breathtaking, especially when the weather is nice and the hills are green. I really like Worcester and I loved observing Worcestershire from the tower. We are not sure but we probably even saw the Malvern Hills from there, and that's were we want to go next!

Worcester Cathedral

I think that Worcester has actually a lot to offer but the Cathedral is probably always the number one thing to do or to see here, according to locals and online reviews, so go check it out.
