Visiting Burano
Burano is one of the Venetian islands, and it is an absolute treasure to visit. It's home to a vast array of colourful, vibrantly-painted houses which make for a quaint visit. You'll find cats and dogs running up and down the canal, alongside the beautiful, bright houses.
To get to Burano, head to Venice, and from the Fondamente Nove Vaporetto stop, or Murano Faro, get on another Vaporetto (from 30mins to an hour depending on which stop you get on from) to the wondrous little island, near to Jesolo. It's renowned for its lace-making too, a quirky addition to the odd little island located on the North-end of the Venetian lagoon. There are also bars, cafés and restaurants, if you fancy an Espresso or gelato after an hour-long Vaporetto ride. You'll also find lace-making shops, Murano glass shops and Venetian mask/Venetian art stores.
Whilst it may not seem like it, the houses all follow a colour pattern, and each time someone wants to paint their home, they must send a letter to the government asking if they can!
Yes, the houses do steal the show on the island, but there's more to the island than what primarily meets the eye. La Chiesa di San Martino (which sadly isn't painted) is one of the island's other sights as well as L'Oratorio di Santa Barbara, and the Museo del Merletto (the museum of lacemaking). All of this on an island with less than 2500 inhabitants - how impressive!
