Why did you choose to go to Venice, Italy?

Because it would fit in well with my studies, and because I didn´t have any basic knowledge of French or German.

How long did your scholarship last? How much were you paid?

The scholarship lasts either for one semester or for a year, depending on what the university offers you and what you want. The amount of money depends on what year you go in: some years ago people received 400 or 500 euros per month, and now they give you about 800 euros in total (paid in two installments, the first one 80% of the final amount and the second one the remaining 20%).

What´s the student life like in Venice?

Very good, just as good as the student life at my home university. No better, no worse.

Would you recommend the city and University of Venice to other students?

Yes. If you´re coming from Spain, it´s good to compare your experiences in Venice with those of Spain.

What´s the food like in Venice?

Very varied, like in Spain, but they don´t fry as much food as we do, and they don´t have tapas, tortillas or croquettes.

Did you find it hard to find somewhere to live in Venice?

It was quite difficult. I chose a good area in Mestre and didn´t regret it, above all because of the savings I made by living there.

How expensive is everyday life in Venice?

Flats cost between 200 and 350 euros per month in Mestre. Food costs double the amount it does in Spain, and fruit is about three times more expensive. I spent about 500 to 600 euros every month.

How are you finding the language? Have you signed up to a language class at the university?

I got on well with the language: you can understand everything within a month, after two weeks you can speak it brokenly and after two months you can speak quite well if you make Italian friends.

What´s the cheapest way of getting to Venice from your home city?

By plane.

What are the best places for partying in Venice?

Campo Santa Margherita.

What does Venice have to offer in terms of culture?

There is lots of cultural variety in Venice itself, and also it isn´t far from many other cities and interesting landscapes. Every two years the La Biennale d´Arte Venezia is held (an art, dance, music and theatre celebration).

Do you have any advice for future students coming to Venice?

Do lots of walking, buy bottles of water, invest in an annual public transport card, and definitely try tramezzini!
