Erasmus Experience in Venice, Italy by Lara
Why did you choose to go to Venice, Italy?
I chose Venice because I study History of art and this city is just full of it.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My scholarship has a duration of 10 months and I receive 250€/month just the first 5 months.
What is the student lifestyle like in Venice?
As a student living in Venice is a totally different experience. It's just a different way of living that you'll just find in this city.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Venice to other students?
This city is just unique and living here is an experience that not many people are able to have, so I definitely recommend it.
What is the food like?
I've found Italian food just as I expected: delicious!
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Venice?
Yes, the university offered me a residence which I didn't really liked, so I decided to look for a flat with more students. I was two months looking for it but I definitely recommend it!
How much does it cost to live in Venice?
It's more expensive than the "normal" cities because it's made for tourists, but if you look for the cheapest supermarkets and find cheap pubs for students there won't be a big difference.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?
I didn't take any course and in three months I was able to manage Italian, but the University offers many courses for students for free or for a very low price.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Venice from your city?
By plane, depending on the time of the year there are many offers for travelling to Venice.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Venice?
Campo Santa Margherita is the place where young people and Venetians usually go out for drinking and having fun at night.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Venice itself is worth visiting, but it also has so many museums, churches, theatres and institutions like the Biennale.
Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Venice?
Rubber boots!
