Vancouver aka Raincouver

Hey peeps,

Are you also missing the summer? As you know I am living in Vancouver, which is amazing in summer, but a little less sparkling in winter. It is already raining for two full months now. This is the reason that the city got the name 'Raincouver', it can rain and rain and rain.

It is really important that you find something to do in these rainy months, because all the outdoor activities are not do-able anymore. In summer everyone goes outside, picknicking in the parks, hiking in the mountains, going on boat and camping trips. People seem to be wearing their sport leggings everyday!

In winter, people tend to stay inside. This is the season that restaurants do good business, that the boardgames appear from under the dust, and you gather with a few friends in your cozy apartment. The time for dinners and clubbing...

Vancouver at night

Talking about clubbing..it is not the same as in The Netherlands. Vancouver has a lot of clubs, but if you don't want to rub your bum to a 16-year old looking girl on the beats of Drake or Bieber, you should avoid these clubs. They only play mainstream garbage music. Instead, there are some other options for night birds: lounges and DJ events. The Commodore Ballroom, Fortune, The Biltmore Cabaret and the Imperial are all venues that support more alternative music acts. Bands and DJ's like Policia, Bonobo and Goldroom play there for a pretty good price.

I discovered it's way more fun to go to a concert or event of which I like the music fully, than to hang around in a club with bad music, expensive drinks and not your kind of people. And don't get me wrong, I love partying.. but not on music that has these kind of lyrics:

'She had me going crazy, oh, I was star-struck, She woke me up daily, don't need no Starbucks. She made my heart pound, it skipped a beat when I see her in the street and at school on the playground but I really wanna see her on the weekend. ' (Baby-Justin Bieber).

No thanks, haha.. my playground times are over ;D
