Biking is hot

Just imagine doing everything on your bike, from pre-drinking to kissing, and that all without that charming bucket on your head. No big sponge between your legs, wearing just a little skirt that flutters in the wind.

Doesn’t that sound attractive? Dutch people do literally everything on their bike. It wouldn’t surprise me if they actually have done IT on their bikes. That would be a very interesting observation, with the bike as an extra um... feature?

It is sometimes whispered that women could get orgasms when they wiggle enough on their saddle. (https://www.buzzfeed.com/caseygueren/so-coregasms-exist) Well..isn’t this all a reason to grab your bike and start biking again?

Dutch kids biking to school.

Vancouver is a mediocre place to bike, except for the seawall that has great bike-lanes. Downtown Vancouver simply has too many cars that make it impossible as a biker to turn. After criss-crossing three car lanes with heavy traffic, the fun of biking disappears a bit. You would say, enough space there in Canada, right? Yes, for long-distance biking, this country is perfect. But the short ‘grocery’ bike rides are not guaranteed. In some areas of Vancouver you have to be careful not too walk around too much, let’s alone park your bike.

However, the seawall and the coastline are biker’s paradise. And the mayor of Vancouver Greg Robertson, our proclaimed 'eco-mayor' has promised us more bikelanes to make Vancouver the greenest city on the planet. He supported a city subsidized bike-rental program, used by a lot of people to commute in the downtown area.

The weather also plays a big role in preventing people to step on their bikes. Vancouver had a large amount of snow, for the first time in about 2, 5 years!

When the slippery lanes are bike-able again, we will see how much influence the efforts of the city have had on the bike behaviour of Vancouverites. For now we enjoy the last bits of snow!
