The Plaza Redonda

Hi people :D

Today I will talk about a little place you can visit next to the city center of Valencia: the Plaza Redonda (where plaza means square and redonda means round).

The square was built around 1840 and the idea was to use it as a commercial square. Some of the streets that arrive to the square have the name of a grocery shop - Pescadería which means fish market.

The square had several reforms during its history, the last one was just a couple of years ago, when the council decided to build a kind of ceiling over the square. Personally, I hate it, I think it was better without it and more natural because this ceiling is too modern for the style the square has.

Nowadays, inside the square you can find typical stands where they sell souvenirs and also typical Valencian stuff, such as materials to sew the typical Valencian costume (fallera).

In the early XX century they built a fountain in the middle, with a round form too, that it is still there today.

You can visit the square easily because it is close to many tourist places as La plaza de la Reina, La Plaza del Ayuntamiento or La Calle San Vicente. On Sundays, there is a kind of street barter market, where you can exchange stickers or buy some stuff for a really cheap price.

This is, without a doubt, a place you should visit if you come to Valencia.

To arrive, you can take a bus and stop in La Plaza de la Reina or you can use the metro and stop in Colon or Xàtiva, both near the square by foot (maybe 10 minutes walking slowly and taking pictures).
